MIDLOTHIAN –– Tripp Brizendine of Tappahannock, Va., and Joseph Monte of Chantilly, Va., each shot 9-under-par 135 at Independence Golf Club in Midlothian, Va., to top three golfers who qualified for the 2005 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship in sectional qualifying at the VSGA's statewide home for golf on Tuesday, June 29. The championship will be played from July 18-23 at Longmeadow Country Club in Longmeadow, Mass.
Brizendine had rounds of 67-68, while Monte shot 71-64. Monte's 64 improved on his career-best round by five strokes and he was 6-under-par on the par 5s.
Also qualifying was Justin Kim of Champions Gate, Fla., who had 6-under-par 138. Brinson Paolini of Virginia Beach and Williamsburg’s Garrison Folwer each carded 5-under-par 139 to earn alternate spots in the national championship
This Junior Amateur, a championship for amateurs 17 and under, is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
